NEGOTIATIONS BREAK DOWN? ? ? ? ? DEVELOPING? earlier this week, negotiations over the American Jobs Plan broke down as Republican senators attempted to strip environmental investments from Biden's infrastructure package.
Everyone in the environmental movement needs to be following this. This is being touted as a jobs bill, but it also has the potential to be the most important climate change legislation in decades. Biden's proposal is a sweeping set of policies to address climate change by creating good-paying jobs in the clean energy and manufacturing sectors while addressing environmental injustice.
We're asking for your help. An end to negotiations with the GOP means the bill can now move forward, but it will require every Democratic senator to vote in favor. Pressure campaigns are underway right now. It's going to come down to the next few weeks.
A group of donors has set up a triple match fund for our Summer Drive. The absolute best thing you can do right now is this: Donate today. Because this fight is so important, every contribution is being triple matched through the end of the month ? [link removed]
Your donation will help fund a major campaign targeting swing lawmakers. We're directing thousands of activists to call their senators. We're running billboards and digital ads. We're holding events, town halls, and public meetings.
And it's working, friend. This past week, a group of pro-environment senators, including Martin Henrich, Brian Schatz, Michael Bennet, Sheldon Whitehouse, Ed Markey, Tina Smith, and Ron Wyden signaled they would not support the jobs plan if climate change investments were removed.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is moving ahead in preparing for the budget reconciliation process, which prevents the bill from being filibustered, enabling this legislation to pass with a simple majority vote.
We have to go all-in on this right now.
The plan proposed by President Biden has the potential to be a historical piece of legislation in the fight against climate change. It includes huge investments that combat environmental racism, modernize and decarbonize our energy, transportation, and water infrastructure ? all while creating millions of good-paying union jobs.
Our latest polling shows that 72% of voters across critical swing states support the clean energy investments. The problem is that swing senators are getting pressure from the fossil fuel industry as well. They just need to pick off one senator at this point ? if we're not campaigning hard, that's almost certainly going to be the outcome.
So we're asking: Please, make a donation today. It's all going to come down to the next few weeks ? [link removed]
