“Freedom Day” is a terrible name for a day. Just like Black History Month is a terrible way to talk about Black history.

But it’s still important. Branding isn’t everything. Nothing we ever experience can be summed up in a day, or in a month. Eating barbecue and drinking strawberry soda is a pretty inadequate way to memorialize centuries of death and suffering. We dam up so much of ourselves trying to survive, to protect the people that we love during our handful of spins on this rock.

But the feeling is real.

So if you live in Atlanta, come celebrate that feeling, alongside us.

📣 For Immediate Release: Defend the Forest! Stop Cop City! 📣

Yesterday, Atlanta City Council Finance Committee met following nearly four hours of public comment from residents concerned over the proposed leasing of over 300 acres of public land to the Atlanta Police Foundation for the construction of a massive police training facility. While the ordinance has been tabled until August, Atlanta DSA, along with abolitionist groups across the city released the following statement on the proposal, reaffirming our commitment to stand against both the construction of the facility and the Mayor's attempted expansion of policing and surveillance across the city. Read our statement here and join us in our fight to #DefendtheForest and #StopCopCity!
