It's official! Next week on Tuesday, June 22nd from 8:30-9:45AM, Sunrise Movement DC will be rallying for DC Statehood!

On Tuesday at 10:00 AM, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs will be holding a historic hearing on DC Statehood. This will be only the second such hearing in the Senate's history, and the first ever since DC Statehood legislation passed the House of Representatives.

Sunrise, along with our partner organizations Neighbors United for DC Statehood and 51 For 51, will be attending a rally at East Capitol St. and 2nd Street (right near the Supreme Court) before the hearing.

This is a great opportunity to bring power and attention to the cause while showing that Sunrise DC is a force to be reckoned with on all fronts. The rally will focus on DC Statehood as a racial justice issue—our majority-Black-and-Brown city's disenfranchisement is rooted in white supremacy and Congress needs to end it ASAP.

Let's bring our youthful energy to this old-school organizing space and reinvigorate it with our passion for justice! If you can make it—bring a homemade sign that says DC Statehood = Racial Justice and decorate it however you'd like. If you can't make a sign, we'll have extras. See you there!
