"Georgia redistricting planning starts" -- Albany Herald


Here's why this is a big deal, John:


-- Georgia is one of four key states, along with North Carolina, Florida, and Texas, that will have 94 U.S. House seats between them -- and where the redistricting process is fully controlled by the GOP.

-- That means we have to work extra hard to fight for a fair, transparent, accountable redistricting process.

-- Georgia is a swing state whose voters determined control of the White House and the Senate in 2020 -- so what happens there impacts the rest of the country.

A few other reasons why what happens in Georgia is critical:

-- As in other states, gerrymandering in Georgia produces extreme Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Andrew Clyde, who compared the January 6 insurrection to a "normal tourist visit."

-- Georgia Republicans are openly talking about gerrymandering Democrats like Lucy McBath and Carolyn Boudreaux out of their districts.

-- Finally, adding manipulated maps on top of Georgia's new voter suppression law could completely silence the voices of many Georgia voters, particularly in communities of color.
