Dear John,

This time last year, your Attorney General tried to end the Habitat Montana program and prevent conservation and public access projects from moving forward.

The Attorney General issued an opinion tying the hands of the Fish and Wildlife Commission--placing the Republican-controlled Land Board in charge.

This would’ve allowed the anti-conservation led Land Board to vote down any FWP approved conservation project it pleased.

On behalf of my client, Governor Bullock, we took the Attorney General to court
and won. ([link removed])

We took the case all the way to the Montana Supreme Court. I argued it. When I stood before the justices, I thought about what the Habitat Montana program means to our conservation values and how the program has helped so many farmers and ranchers preserve their open lands forever.

We won, decisively.

By a vote of 6-1, the Montana Supreme Court stopped the current Attorney General and we saved the Habitat Montana program.

Since this ruling, there are now thousands of acres of conservation and public access projects in the works where Montanans will soon be able to hunt, fish, and recreate on.

Taking on our own Attorney General was the right thing to do to protect the values we share as Montanans.

One thing is clear: the threats to conservation and public lands are real. And our Attorney General is not working for us, he’s working against us.

Our Attorney General should go to court and fight for more public access, not block it.

Our Attorney General should stand up for Montana sportsmen and women, not stand in their way.

And our Attorney General should vote on the Land Board for conservation projects, not vote in favor of corporate interests who want to develop these special places and sell them off to wealthy landowners.

Lots of politicians talk about public lands. As an advocate, I've done more than just talk.

There is a clear choice in this race: We can have an Attorney General who works for us again, who fights for conservation and public access in court and on the Land Board.

Or, we will have an AG who’s allied with out-of-state corporate interests.

I’m running for Attorney General to be your advocate. To defend our values and protect what makes Montana special. And I will never settle for anything less.

Sincerely,

-Raph Graybill
