June 19, or Juneteenth, marks the day in 1865 when General Gordon Granger read General Order No. 3 across the island of Galveston, Texas, informing the still-enslaved people of Texas that they were free.
The House of Representatives just voted to make Juneteenth a national holiday, after passing the Senate earlier this week, and now the bill is off to President Biden’s desk for his signature.
I believe that Juneteenth is an incredibly important part of American history and thus must be recognized as a federal holiday. If you agree, add your name to this petition.
