Team, My home state of Florida has faced a number of pressing issues over the past year — but trans children participating in sports isn’t one of them. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is leading the charge to carry out the culture wars ignited by Donald Trump, signing bills to keep LGBTQ+ youth from participating in sports, and making it harder for these children to be accepted in their own communities. Here are the facts: 1 in 5 Gen Z Americans identify as LGBTQ+. But because Gen Z and Millennials lack representation at all levels of government, the GOP continues to make decisions that fly in the face of the interests of America’s youth. Instead of working to help our state bounce back from the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, extreme partisans would rather attack those with the least power and representation in our communities. We are working to make sure that stops — now.
