** This update will ensure New Orleans' pump system keeps working.
------------------------------------------------------------

After decades of fighting a losing battle with the city's archaic turbines, a new substation ([link removed]) is finally being built to power New Orleans' drainage pump system. This is a huge step forward in ensuring New Orleans' safety against flooding.

The antiquated turbine system that has powered the pumps for the last century will be relegated to backup power, to be used only in case of an emergency. The new system, which will be safer, more reliable, and more efficient, will be ready by hurricane season 2023.

Not only will this help to keep New Orleans safe when storms cause flooding, but it will also save taxpayers money in the long run and reduce emissions that contribute to climate change. This is the kind of forward-thinking, innovative leadership that Mayor Cantrell has provided throughout her time in office.

Mayor Cantrell has made it a priority throughout her administration to repair and improve New Orleans' infrastructure, including securing the #FairShare deal and repairing streets all over the city. This is another huge infrastructure accomplishment. Donate today ([link removed]) to help her continue this progress in her second term.
