URGENT: Toxic heavy metals found in baby food! Tell Congress to protect kids’ health now!

Dear Friend,

Earlier this year, a shocking congressional report revealed dangerously high levels of toxic heavy metals, including lead, arsenic and mercury, in popular baby foods. These metals can cause permanent harm to babies’ developing brains.

Now Beech-Nut is voluntarily recalling its rice cereal, after the state of Alaska discovered samples containing shockingly high levels of arsenic.

But manufacturers still have almost no responsibility to test for heavy metals or warn consumers if levels are elevated. Insane!

This is unacceptable. Congress needs to do more to protect our kids from brain-damaging heavy metals. Will you join us in demanding that Congress take immediate action to protect our kids?

The Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization agree that exposure to even low levels of some heavy metals can cause serious and often irreversible damage to babies’ brains. But the levels found in the baby food tested and their ingredients are terribly high, including up to 91 times the arsenic level and 177 times the lead level the FDA set for drinking water.

EWG experts recommend avoiding baby food that contains ingredients testing high in toxic heavy metals, such as rice, and looking for alternatives to rice-based foods (even for adults!).

But most important, Congress needs to take action to protect babies from toxic heavy metals. Congress should pass the Baby Food Safety Act immediately, to set tough standards that protect our babies and require product testing. Will you add your voice today?
