[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy

Friends —

Five years ago, I decided to stand on the Senate floor and talk for as long as I could about the need to prevent gun violence until we secured a vote on expanding background checks. It was just days after we lost 49 lives at the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando — one of the deadliest mass shootings in our nation's history.

In the years since, Congress has done the unimaginable: nothing at all.

So we need to expand our movement’s ranks in the Senate. In 2022, we have the chance to do that and give Florida new leadership by electing Val Demings. She just launched her campaign and could use our support.

Can you split a donation between Val Demings and my campaign to help us fight for gun safety legislation? With the FEC deadline in two weeks, it’s critical that we help her campaign start strong.

Two of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern American history happened in Florida: Pulse and Parkland.

Marco Rubio was in the Senate for both of them. When I forced that vote in 2016, he was against our bill. Florida families deserve better.

And at a moment when there’s not a single Black woman in the Senate, Val would make a fantastic addition.

From serving as an impeachment manager to standing up for universal background checks, she’s shown real grit and determination. But she needs our help to win this race.

If you are able to, please split a donation between Val Demings and my campaign today. Rubio’s starting off with a nearly $4 million war chest, so Val Demings needs lots and lots of donations to compete with that.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
