Congress is in the midst of negotiating a massive infrastructure package,
and the question is: What are we going to invest in to create a better
future?

We know that building a high-speed rail system would create millions of
union jobs and boost regional economies, connect communities historically
left behind, and help decarbonize our transportation sector. But right
now, Biden’s current plan puts over $100 billion dollars more into car
infrastructure than rail and transit combined.

So Alexandria joined Rep. Seth Moulton, the US High Speed Rail
Association, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters today to call
for an increase in high-speed rail funding in the upcoming infrastructure
package.

It will take a mass outcry across the country to pass increased funding
for high-speed rail. That’s where you come in.

The federal government spends at least three times as much on roads than
transit and rail combined each year — despite the fact that high-speed
rail creates more jobs per billion dollars invested.

And unlike highway construction, which has historically displaced entire
neighborhoods – most often communities of color – high-speed rail actually
connects communities, cuts traffic, makes downtowns more walkable, and
creates new housing and economic opportunities.

Lastly, a high-speed rail network will help decarbonize our transportation
sector by shifting millions of trips into an electrically-powered mode of
transport while reducing demand for options that rely on fossil fuels.

Climate legislation is infrastructure legislation – that’s why we must
seize this opportunity and pass an infrastructure package that actually
helps us meet our climate goals.

to you. Please call Rep. Boyle and Sens. Casey and Toomey today and urge them to pass a federal
infrastructure bill that increases funding for high-speed rail.
