Friend,

We invite you to join us next week for a virtual discussion about the brand-new redesign of our Civil Rights Memorial Center (CRMC) in Montgomery, Alabama. This will be an exclusive look behind the scenes at the extensive changes we’ll be debuting soon – the first time we’re sharing details about the revitalization of the CRMC that’s been underway for the past year.

When the COVID-19 pandemic forced a sudden closure of the Civil Rights Memorial Center in March 2020, we decided to seize the opportunity. For the past year, we’ve been hard at work refreshing the center’s exhibits and reimagining how we are telling the stories of the civil rights movement, from past to present. A top priority was to make the CRMC experience more interactive and engaging, designing new multimedia exhibits that provide space for dialogue and civic engagement.

At this exclusive webinar, you’ll hear CRMC Director Tafeni English in conversation with two of our partners at Monadnock Media, the design firm that helped us realize our new vision for the center: Steven Bressler, creative director and founder, and Claudia Leven, senior producer. The panelists will discuss in detail the newly designed multimedia exhibits at the center. They’ll also explore how the CRMC refresh supports the center’s mission to bring about positive social change and advance intersectional movements for civil and human rights.

The SPLC opened the CRMC in 1995, an expansion of the Civil Rights Memorial designed by Maya Lin. Today, it is one of Alabama’s premier destinations for visitors exploring the state’s extensive civil rights history, a vital source of education on the historic civil rights movement and the continued fight for racial justice. The CRMC both honors the martyrs of the past and connects the history of the movement to the present day.

We hope you can join us,

Your friends at the Southern Poverty Law Center
