10 years ago, the International Labor Organization Convention 189 for Decent Work for Domestic Workers established international labor law for domestic workers. Since the law passed, domestic workers have used this day to honor those who came before them and to continue the fight for dignity, respect, and safety, for ALL domestic workers .
Domestic work in the United States has its roots in the legacy of slavery, and domestic work across the world has similar legacies of exploitation and abuse. Despite the challenges domestic workers across the globe face, they have built vibrant, powerful worker movements that move mountains and bring about change.
NDWA is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with workers who make all other work possible — in the U.S. and around the world — and to be a part of the global domestic workers movement.
For generations, domestic workers have paved the way for better working conditions for all and the fight continues for broader protections. Join us today, and every day, and stand in solidarity with and in support of those fighting to create dignity in their work and determining better futures for themselves and their families.
