John, you can stop looking.
There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that says the Senate can only act on important legislation if the president promises to sign it. So when Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he won't take up background checks and other gun safety measures until President Trump says it's OK, that is an unacceptable excuse.
The vast majority of Americans want the Senate to act on gun safety. McConnell's excuses are unacceptable. Simply put, there are no excuses for inaction.
Help us keep the pressure on the Senate by sending a message to McConnell and your Senators today urging them to pass strong gun safety laws.
The House of Representatives is doing its part: It passed a number of bipartisan measures to reduce gun violence, including background checks on all gun sales.
In America, 100 people are shot and killed every day, and hundreds more are wounded. It's not just the headline-grabbing mass shootings like El Paso and Dayton, it's the daily toll of death, injury and loss that affects so many Americans.
John, the Senate doesn't need a permission slip from the president to take action to protect Americans. It's time for the Senate to do its job and pass background checks on all gun sales and a strong red flag law.
Thank you for all you do to end the epidemic of gun violence in our country.
