Recently, I proudly joined nine other colleagues to send a letter to Alphabet Inc., the parent company of YouTube and Google to demand they conduct a self-audit on racial equity within its platforms.

When we rely so heavily on algorithms and big data, we often see our bigotries and biases replicated in this so-called “objective” data. Rather than being a great equalizer, we often find that big tech codefies and reinforces inequalities in modern society.

This is pernicious and ubiquitous. Crucial opportunities can be hidden from a person because of their name or where they live; apps meant to detect skin conditions are found to be ineffective or inadequate on dark skin. I could go on and on.

This creates a culture of marginalization and prioritization that disproportionately harms communities of color, and it’s Alphabet Inc’s responsibility to conduct this audit and implement measures to take account for inherent biases within their tech.

If you’re with me in this fight to hold big tech accountable for its inherent biases and damage done to communities of color, help me keep this up by donating $25 to my campaign, today.

This kind of ingrained racism is nothing new, but I’m proud to shine a light on the responsibility these massive tech companies are shirking. I’m proud to stand up against this kind of institutional racism that hides behind a veneer of impartiality.

While companies like Alphabet may feel their money and influence can shield them from responsibility to marginalized communities, we need leaders to stand up to these companies and fight for our communities.

I’m proud to be your champion, folks. If you want to join my fight to make technology not only accessible, but equitable, donate to my campaign today so I can continue holding the most powerful companies in the world accountable for their actions.

Thanks you for your support,
