Spanberger for Congress

John,

Like so many of you, I was incredibly proud of the U.S. Women’s National Team as they competed in the World Cup and took home another victory for the United States.

And as our team won the World Cup, chants of “EQUAL PAY” broke out in the stadium.

John, equal pay might be in the national spotlight at the moment, but it’s an issue that women in Virginia face every single day.

In the Commonwealth, the average woman working full time makes 78 cents for each dollar her male counterpart makes. For women of color, it’s even less. African American women are paid 60 cents and Latinas are paid 53 cents. And by one estimate, Virginia women who work full time lose a combined total of $13 billion each year because of the pay gap.

This is one of the reasons I co-sponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act. It's about ensuring that families – in particular, the women who are supporting families – have the ability to earn pay equal to their male counterparts.

I’m going to continue to work for equal pay for women and the families that depend on it. Not just because it’s in the spotlight now, but because of all the families across Virginia that deserve it.

As I continue to work for all Virginians, I hope that you’ll consider a donation to my campaign >>>

Thank you
