John -
They say we're outpowered and outnumbered, but we still blocked a quorum vote on Senate Bill 7.
They tried to call recess and keep us out of the debate process, but we took back the mic and demanded a say.
Now, Republicans are calling a special session because they're looking at the board and think they can still beat us. They're dead wrong — Texas Democrats are fired up.
Texas Democrats didn't let our Republican oppressors get the upper hand when they walked off the floor, temporarily blocking Jim Crow 2.0 from becoming law. That's because we will stop at nothing to protect our Democracy and your right to vote. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: I was proud to join my fellow Texas Democrats and take the fight to Capitol Hill today. I'm thankful that Speaker Pelosi joined us in urging the Senate to pass the HR1 and HR4 before it's too late. Texas has a storied history of institutional racism, but the heart of the VRA can still protect us. However, if Congress doesn't take this opportunity to restore preclearance before redistricting happens, there will be nothing stopping Republicans from drawing us out of the Democratic process altogether. What my colleagues did that day on the Texas House floor wasn't an easy choice, and no doubt many of them will face backlash for it. I am grateful they took such a risk and brought national attention to what's happening in our state. If they can find the courage to stand up for Democracy in the Texas Legislature, then Congress can find courage too. Thanks,
Marc
Growing up in Fort Worth’s historic Como neighborhood, Marc Veasey didn’t dream about being an elected official. He just hoped that he would one day be able to make a difference in the lives of his friends and neighbors. That simple goal has taken him all the way to the halls of Congress, where he is proud to represent not only the friends and neighbors he grew up with but hundreds of thousands of diverse voices across North Texas. Now, as Congressman for Texas's 33rd District Marc Veasey serves as the Chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus and Co-Chair of the Congressional Blue Collar Caucus. Please consider making a contribution today to keep sending Marc Veasey back to Washington to fight for North Texas families.
