You received an email from my colleague and friend, Barbara Bessette, that discussed a few sensitive topics such as domestic violence and suicide. We both care deeply about these issues, and believe they should be treated for what they are - public health crises.

The failure of our leaders to address the mental health crisis in our rural and Native American communities is inexcusable. The spike in suicides in these communities is directly correlated with a lack of access to mental health care. This cannot go on any longer.

Mental health care matters just as much as physical health care. And right now Montana is failing our people when it comes to providing proper mental health care, such as access to social workers and therapists.
