AEE Launches Policy Briefs on Wholesale Markets ([link removed] )

AEE released the first two policy briefs in a new series on how advanced energy technologies can and should be allowed to participate in wholesale electricity markets, for the benefit of customers and the grid itself. Wholesale electricity markets – seven state and regional markets overseen by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), plus the independent Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) – currently serve more than 200 million Americans and account for about two-thirds of all electricity sales.

These critical markets are complex, governed by rules that either facilitate or hinder participation by advanced energy technologies and services, with consequences for the competition in these markets that keeps reliability high and costs low. Removing barriers that stand in the way of full market participation by advanced energy would be steps toward expanding the advanced energy market opportunity by an estimated $65 billion. Florida's Forecast is Sunny for Advanced Energy Jobs ([link removed] )

Florida was recently named the 3rd Best State in the nation for economic growth in 2018 by U.S. News & World Report. Florida’s jobs future may be as bright as its nickname – “The Sunshine State” – but some sectors are growing faster than others. One of them is the advanced energy industry, which showed job growth more than double overall job growth in the state last year. In everything from electric vehicles to energy efficiency and solar energy, the forecast looks sunny for advanced energy jobs in Florida. Webinar - Distributed Energy Resources in Wholesale Markets: What They Are Doing Now; What They Could Do, Given More Opportunity to Compete ([link removed] )

Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) – such as battery storage, electric vehicles, microgrids, and both standalone solar and solar-plus-storage – are known for adding value onsite or to the local distribution grid. Increasingly, however, these resources, when aggregated together, are not only technically capable of providing energy, capacity, and ancillary services to wholesale electricity markets but can do so cost-competitively. A recent AEE report, Putting Distributed Energy Resources to Work in Wholesale Electricity Markets, provided five case studies of aggregated DER participation in wholesale markets, showing what they can do now, and suggesting what they could do with market rules that allowed them to compete fully with traditional resources. This webinar will bring these case studies to life, with DER companies and other experts discussing current opportunities and roadblocks across RTO/ISO regions.
