Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom for Black Americans across this nation — but we know our fight for equality and justice for all is far from over.

That’s why our Senate Democrats took bold, progressive action to ensure police reform and racial justice in Washington State during this legislative session. Here at WSDC, we’re committed to keeping up the fight to combat racial injustice. We need to know if our supporters are standing with us.

Do you support the efforts WA Senate Democrats have made to advance justice and equality for Black Americans? What else do you want to see us do in the next legislative session to keep supporting communities of color? We need 1,000 activists to take our survey in the next 48 hours. [[link removed]]

It’s been over 155 years since the emancipation of slavery, but we continue to witness violence and sytemic racism against Black Americans and communities of color far too often. We know it’s long past time for our laws to finally reflect this unquestionable truth: that Black lives matter.

Washington Senate Dems understand this, which is why we passed a series of broad police accountability bills last session. Here’s a quick look at what they will do for our state:

Ban chokeholds and no-knock warrants
Prohibit police forces from acquiring military equipment and limit the use of tear gas
Establish a “reasonable care” standard and require officers to intervene if a colleague is using excessive force
Create a new office to investigate incidents of deadly use of force and a statewide database of such cases
Build partnerships between communities and law enforcement
Expand civilian oversight of law enforcement

Senate Democrats worked hard to pass police reform and more bills that ensure environmental justice for communities of color and racial equity in education. But this is just the beginning.

Our members are committed to keeping up the fight for justice — but first, they need to know if you’re standing with them. Will you take our survey and share your thoughts? [[link removed]]
