Friend, tonight is the last Leaders’ debate of this campaign.
And it brings back so many memories of my own years serving as Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. When I first came to the Hill, at the age of 29, I didn’t know a word of English, I was a small-town lawyer, and quite honestly, I didn’t think I would ever become Prime Minister.
Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to take the stage for more debates than I can count. And although each one of them was completely different, they all played an important role in each of the 12 elections for which I had the chance to put my name on the ballot.
Every campaign I’ve seen has had a profound impact on our country, and I know that’s especially true of the election coming up in just 11 days – now and for generations to come.
Friend, I like to keep things clear and simple, and there is nothing clearer than the choice in front of us on October 21.
Andrew Scheer claims he wants to help the middle class, yet he and his party would take us backwards with the same Conservative cuts and failed policies that Canadians rejected four years ago.
That’s why, together, we need to show Justin Trudeau that we stand with him tonight. He’ll be focused on moving forward with a real plan to grow our economy, confront the climate crisis, and invest in families, communities and our middle class – and we need to have his back.
