ACLU Supporter --

We just filed a lawsuit challenging Trump's new rule banning asylum protections for virtually all people crossing the southern border. The Trump administration is trying to unilaterally reverse our country's legal and moral commitment to protect those fleeing danger.

The new rule prohibits anyone from applying for asylum if they have passed through another country and didn't seek asylum there first. It's patently unlawful under U.S. law as well as international human rights law -- and it's an unacceptable assault on our country's values. Our team has been working around the clock to file this suit and stop the new rule in its tracks.

The Trump administration has been tearing apart families and stoking fear and racism across the country for over two years now. Last weekend, the president reminded us of what fuels his anti-immigrant agenda when he told Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez -- four women of color and new members of Congress -- to "go back" to where they came from. This is racism, plain and simple.

But we've been fighting back at every turn. Together, we've reunited thousands of families torn apart by his cruel family separation policy, and we're still in court fighting to reunite the rest. We won a ruling against Attorney General Barr's attempt to jail asylum seekers without due process. We blocked Trump from using unauthorized funds to build his border wall. And just last weekend, we showed how powerful we can be when we came together, wielding the power of the Constitution to defend against the planned ICE raids. Thanks to you, thousands of people knew their rights.

ACLU Supporter, you don't need me to tell you that we won't stop fighting for immigrants' rights -- or that we can win and will win with the help of our four million supporters like you.

Together we are powerful.

Keep fighting,

Lee Gelernt
Deputy Director of the ACLU Immigrants' Rights Project
