# [#] Hi John —
Over the last year, children all across the country have shouldered an unprecedented emotional burden.
Young children growing up in our country are exposed to trauma at every corner, whether from active shooter drills in schools to witnessing white supremacist violence in their own neighborhoods. And when you add on the vast effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we've got a mental health crisis on our hands.
That’s why I partnered with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley to reintroduce the Children’s Protection Act and the STRONG for Support for Children Act — two bills aimed at addressing the rising levels of childhood trauma by taking on a holistic and community-based approach.
Our children deserve better, and centering their health and well-being is the best thing we can do to ensure our country’s future is bright. Join me in calling on Congress to pass these two crucial pieces of legislation for the betterment of our children→ [[link removed]]

When our children are exposed to police brutality, systemic racism, and a global pandemic, it creates immense trauma. When that trauma goes untreated, it leads to negative health outcomes like suicide, substance abuse, toxic stress and even heart disease.
As adults, it’s our job to keep our children safe and healthy, and right now we’re failing them. By passing these bills into law, we can prioritize childhood trauma and establish key programs to assist in the healing process. These bills are vital, and must be passed by Congress.
