Welcome to Tuesday, June 15th, kings and queens and jesters...

A House panel will investigate Trump's DOJ surveillance of lawmakers and journalists.

The announcement comes after the New York Times reported that the Trump-era Dept. of Justice (DOJ) subpoenaed metadata from devices belonging to members of Congress, journalists, and the then-White House counsel amid a probe into leaks of classified information.

"Recent reports suggest that, during the Trump Administration, the Department of Justice used criminal investigations as a pretext to spy on President Trump's perceived political enemies," House Judiciary Chair Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) said in a statement announcing the committee inquiry.

"It remains possible that these cases—which now include Members of Congress, members of the press, and President Trump's own White House Counsel—are isolated incidents. Even if these reports are completely unrelated, they raise serious constitutional and separation of power concerns."

** Border Apprehensions Remain at Historic Levels
------------------------------------------------------------

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Wednesday released its operational statistics for the month of May and revealed that it was the third straight month in which apprehensions of people attempting to enter the country illegally continued at the highest level in over two decades.

CBP apprehended 180,034 unauthorized immigrants at the Southern border in May, an increase from 178,854 in April ([link removed]) and 173,337 in March.

The number of unaccompanied minors apprehended by CBP declined to 14,144 in May after an all-time high of 18,890 in March and 17,171 in April, which had the second-largest number of unaccompanied minor apprehensions in a month all-time. The number of unaccompanied minors apprehended in May 2021 ranks third all-time.

** And, In The End...

Get buzzed for National Electricity Day.

It's the (supposed) anniversary of the date in 1752 when Benjamin Franklin flew his kite in a thunderstorm in the hopes of proving that lightning was caused by electricity.

Go fly a kite,
