On Saturday the Arlington County Board held our first in-person meeting in 445 days. We took up collective bargaining, changing the name of Lee Highway in Arlington, and a prevailing wage ordinance. Each action is not yet final--next month we will reconsider and pass each--but it was an inspiring day.
You might not have been there on Saturday, but I want you to know that your support was with me and the County Board, and I am grateful.
Many of you helped flip Virginia from red to blue in 2019 and none of the actions we took during Saturday's Board meeting would have been possible under Virginia law without the legislation passed by Democrats in the House of Delegates over the past two years.
in 2019, we did an event for Wendy Gooditis that helped her win. This year she has a well-funded opponent and needs us: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/arlington0626
And that is why I am asking you to join me for an event in support of Wendy Gooditis. She is in a very tough and very important race in Loudoun County. For context on our November elections in VA and Wendy's race in particular, read this article: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2021/05/virginia-election-trump-mcauliffe-youngkin/618950/
On Saturday June 26th, Brooke and I will be hosting a fundraiser in support of Wendy Gooditis. The event is co-hosted by several Senators and Delegates from Arlington who know how important it is that Wendy win re-election this fall. Wendy is an outstanding woman and leader who was motivated to run after Trump's victory in 2016, and she won in a tough district.
Please click on the link above to join us and contribute what you can.
We cannot do the work we need to do in Arlington and in Virginia over the next year if Wendy and other Democrats in difficult races do not hold the Democratic majority in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Sincerely,
Matt ps. If you have questions about the event, please email me at [email protected].
