Hi John,
As a proud Texan, I absolutely had to share this news with you:
Of the eight candidates Run for Something endorsed in Texas run-offs last week, seven won.
We helped flip two red seats blue and in the process flipped the Fort Worth city council. And in the middle of Pride Month, we helped add some history to the books: Jalen McKee-Rodriguez won his race for San Antonio City Council, becoming the first openly LGBTQIA+ Black man to win an election to office in Texas state history!
I got my start in San Antonio politics working on Julián Castro's first mayoral race in 2005 (we lost, but he won when he ran again in 2009). Unlike Julián's campaign, the casual homophobia I saw in so many other city political spaces and leaders was heartbreaking. So to be a part of Jalen making history… well, it doesn't get much sweeter than that.
These wins didn't just happen overnight though. Run for Something's been investing in Texas for over four years. But that's just a fraction of the decades Republicans have spent building state and local power in Texas -- and across the country.
Our goal at Run for Something is to beat the GOP at their own game -- by investing in state and local elections with young progressives who can secure political power for a generation. I absolutely believe Texas can turn blue… if we're willing to outwork, out-invest, and outlast the Republican machine.
To do that, we're counting on grassroots donors to stay in the fight for progress. If you're in, chip in

Now... every couple of years Democrats get fired up about the opportunity to turn Texas blue. Whether that's efforts after the 2012 Obama campaign or Beto O'Rourke's run for Senate. And then it doesn't happen. But that's not because it's not possible (Beto got
so close!).
It's because too many people underestimate the work ahead of us -- flipping the second largest state in the country will not be easy, and it will NOT be overnight. We are up against a machine that Republicans have spent decades building, perfecting, and expanding with only sporadic pushback from national Democrats and inconsistent investment from Democratic donors.
Amanda and I are done with the days of letting Republicans run the table. We don't want to just win one cycle or one seat… we want to win everything and everywhere, and we know we can with this incredible Run for Something community.
We're recruiting, training, and supporting diverse, young progressives everywhere in 2021, 2022, and beyond -- if you can help get them elected, chip in
$5
now.
Thank you,
