John,
I wanted to share this amazing headline from NBC News:
Eager to represent: Gay and trans Mexican candidates
running in key vote
Nearly 2 percent of more than 6,000 Mexican candidates who responded to a national survey identified as LGBTQ.
117 out LGBTQ candidates ran for local and national races all around Mexico. And even better? Many of them are making LGBTQ history! Adolfo Cerqueda made history as the first Mayor of Nezahualcóyotl, shattering a huge rainbow ceiling in Mexico. And Lucía Verdín Limón made history as the first lesbian city councilor from the municipality of León, Guanajuato!
We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this huge leap forward. Will you make a donation to celebrate this victory and support our international trainings?
Victory Institute is incredibly proud to work with partner organizations in Mexico and across Latin America to boost LGBTQ political participation and the number of out elected officials. From focusing on messaging strategy to providing tips on how to run safely, we ensure that our program participants have the knowledge and resources to win. And our hard work is paying off – more and more out leaders are running around the world!
Having this many out voices on the campaign trail is going to make a difference for LGBTQ people. LGBTQ elected officials humanize LGBTQ lives, highlight LGBTQ issues and ensure that our community has a seat at the table. And we have to keep moving forward. Donate today to power the global rainbow wave!
Thanks so much for your support!
