Team,
This morning, Michael rolled out an ambitious, three-pronged plan to tackle America's housing affordability crisis and ensure every American can afford a good home in a thriving community.
A home is a platform for stability, good health, upward mobility, and opportunity in America. But for too many families, owning a home is out of reach, and the high cost of paying rent has pushed them to a breaking point.
Michael's plan attacks this crisis from three angles:
Building more affordable housing near good jobs and good schools by directly supporting the construction, preservation, and refurbishment of nearly 4 million units of affordable housing for middle-class workers, seniors, and low-income families, while creating incentives for communities to build and preserve millions more.
Making home ownership and renting easier through a combination of fully funding opportunity vouchers for low-income families, creating tax credits that make affording down payments easier, and expanding credit access for smaller mortgages in smaller markets or in high-poverty neighborhoods.
Reforming the federal tax code so that working families, not the ultra-wealthy, can benefit.
This is a bold, comprehensive plan that will directly address some of the major economic problems facing America today.
But Michael can't do it alone.
