Things are changing when it comes to Muslim Americans and political engagement. 20 years ago, our communities were dealing with the backlash of 9/11 and a major spike in Islamophobia, bigotry, and hate. Throughout those years, our communities had few political leaders who could stand up and fight on our behalf. While Islamophobia, bigotry, and hate still exist one thing has changed: we have a roster of elected officials on the front lines fighting on our behalf and representing us at the local, state, and national levels.

Throughout the years, many candidates have stepped up to the plate, sacrificing their professional and personal lives and committing themselves to public service. Now, we have three Muslim American representatives in the United States House of Representatives and a number of elected officials at the state and local levels. We have come far in such a short period of time, but we are not stopping now.

Sharif Street is running to be the first Muslim American Senator in United States history. I do not have to tell you how important this would be for Muslim Americans across the country and across the world. A lifetime of achievement and public service have prepared him well for this race, and that is why Emgage PAC is proud to host a fundraiser in support of this momentous campaign. And it is why we are asking you to join us on Friday, June 18th, to hear from Sharif himself.
