This week, the developers of the Keystone XL oil pipeline abandoned the project.
For a decade, frontline communities and environmental advocates fought the project because of its threat to vital water resources and the stability of our climate. Developers had said resolutely that it would be built, but this week the community organizers, Indigenous leaders, and environmental advocates achieved a monumental victory.
On top of this, just last month we saw a judge tell Shell Oil that they must reduce emissions 45% by 2030, and Exxon shareholders made a historic vote against company management and unseated multiple board members in an effort to force the company to reckon with its climate impacts.
The dominos are starting to fall. We can see the power of people mobilizing around action on climate change, and the next domino to fall has to be in Congress.
It is no exaggeration to say that the coming weeks will be make or break for the passage of climate policies in Congress. After a decade of blocked attempts to pass just, planet-saving climate policy, we must finally succeed now.
We have a chance to put bold climate policies in an infrastructure package, but we can't do it without grassroots supporters like you demanding change. Help us keep the climate momentum going — make a donation to support SEEC Members in Congress fighting to end a decade-long battle for the passage of climate policies on Capitol Hill [[link removed]] . And then call your elected leaders in the House and the Senate to let them know you're demanding bold climate policies in infrastructure.
Let's see what we can do together.
