We could be headed for disaster.

National Republican groups are pouring millions of dollars into the effort
to smear and recall Gov. Gavin Newsom, and the Sacramento Bee is warning
that the GOP has “a real shot at kicking California’s top Democrat out of
office.”(1,2)

And new polls reveal that Newsom is showing serious weaknesses in the
Central Valley and the Inland Empire, two critical areas for determining
statewide elections.(3)

We simply can’t let the right wing take over California, which is why
we’ve partnered with Communities for a New California and Inland Empire
United to launch a targeted polling and focus group campaign in the
Central Valley and Inland Empire so we can figure out how to defeat the
Recall.

Newsom isn’t perfect. We’ll be first to admit that.

But his GOP opponents would be a nightmare.

And there’s one right-wing candidate in particular that we need to watch
out for: former San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconor.

He’s backed by Trump. He’s proposing cutting taxes for millionaires. He
has a recent governing record in one of our major cities to stand on.

But here’s perhaps the scariest part: The Recall election is a special one
and will take place when most people aren’t paying attention to politics
and experts predict turnout will be low.

Which means the election will be all about turnout. And Faulconor’s entire
campaign strategy is to get massive numbers of the most fringe elements of
the GOP to the polls.

So if Faulconor turns out the anti-vaxxers, QAnon theorists, and
militiamen, and progressives stay home, then Faulconer could come out
victorious and become the next governor of California.

We simply CANNOT let that happen.

That's why we’re launching our strategic, targeted campaign to persuade
and turn out critical voters in the Inland Empire and Central Valley. We
know that much of the effort to recall Newsom is fueled by lies and
conspiracy theories, and if we can figure out exactly what we need to do
to fight extremism and disinformation in these regions, we’ll be well
positioned to defeat this Recall.
