People For Member, Today marks the 5-year anniversary of the horrific shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. While we reflect on the lives lost to the tragic and senseless violence, our elected officials have done little to protect the LGBTQ+ community from continued discrimination and violence nor have they acted to prevent additional shootings from occurring. While Democrats continue advocating for legislation that would provide federal protections for the LGBTQ+ community and measures that seek to eliminate future gun violence, Far Right officials in Congress and state legislatures across the country have opposed these measures – blocking long overdue and necessary change. Perhaps the biggest roadblock preventing these measures from moving forward is the gridlock in the U.S. Senate, where bill after bill is piling up because of the Senate filibuster. Join me in taking action today and urge the Senate to act swiftly on urgently needed items:
While we continue celebrating Pride month and the decades of progress that have been made, we cannot take our focus off the attacks the LGBTQ+ community continues to endure from the Far Right. Join me in demanding more of our elected officials and in fighting back against hate. Thanks for all that you do, Ben Jealous, President
