John,

On July 1, I announced my campaign for Congress to represent the place that raised me knowing that Columbus was ready for a new generation of bold leadership. I also took a stand that day not to accept any corporate PAC money because, to be an unbought and unbossed representative, I knew this needed to be a people-powered campaign. So...I’m writing today to let you know that, because of you:

We’re in this.

Our grassroots campaign, powered exclusively by individuals such as yourself, raised $323,237.04 in our first quarter. While the overall amount is exciting (which is the “fourth-largest amount of money among any first-time congressional primary challenger in the initial quarter of their campaign”—The Intercept), the story behind that number is really inspiring:

  • Unique number of individual donors: 2,674
  • State with the highest number of donations: Ohio
  • Donations of $100 or less: 90%
  • Geographic reach of donors: All 50 states
  • PAC Money: $0

And, most importantly, we received donations from almost every zip code in OH-3.

I have never run for political office. I am running on a bold, progressive platform. And yet, we could not have sent a clearer message to the political establishment: people-powered politics is for real. We do not accept money from corporate PACs, lobbyists, or executives of fossil fuel, payday lending, or firearm manufacturing companies. That’s because I am only looking to represent people, not corporations.

Thank you,

Morgan
