The LGBT Agenda: You, President Trump & 19 Candidates for President

Tonight CNN and the Human Rights Campaign are hosting a live Town Hall featuring nine of the Democratic presidential candidates. The candidates are Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Tom Steyer, Pete Buttigieg, Beto O’Rourke, Amy Klobuchar and Julian Castro. The title for tonight’s event is “Power of Our Pride” and will center entirely on the LGBT agenda. This is the first time in history such a presidential event has taken place focused on just this one issue.  The candidates will be asked how they plan to advance the LGBT agenda.

This is an unprecedented event and is an indicator of how aggressive the LGBT movement has become in our country. To his credit, President Trump has taken significant action to restore common sense, correct interpretation of federal laws, religious freedom, and parental rights, all of which have been threatened and even harmed by the advancement of the LGBT agenda.

Minnesota Family Council, in cooperation with several national groups, has released a resource specifically designed to assist parents in navigating the aggressive and now pervasive transgender issue. Understanding the Transgender Issue: Parent Resource Guide is fully researched and documented, defines terms, explains the issue thoroughly and gives parents practical ways to address the issue with their children and especially in schools. A free pdf of the publication is available HERE. Call our WFC office at 888-378-7395 to purchase a print copy.

According to the guide, "The goal [of this guide] is to protect students from harm stemming from irreversible treatments, privacy violations, and compelled speech, and to educate parents about the transgender issue, and to equip parents to advocate on their child's behalf."
Julaine Appling, WFA president, says, "Our friends at Minnesota Family Council have done a stellar job on this publication. We believe every pastor, every youth leader and certainly every Christian parent should have this resource. This issue is not going away; it’s going to get bigger and more aggressive—and the target is children. Parents need reliable help now, and it’s available in this guide."

Tom Rost: Standing Up for All of Us
A Personal Reflection on a Critical Religious Freedom Case
by Julaine Appling, WFA President
"I hadn’t thought about the Rost family for a long time—since Casey came to visit my dad in late 2003 just before dad passed away.  And then sometime last year a lawsuit involving a Christian funeral home owner in Detroit caught my attention—and all these memories came together as I realized that it was Tom Rost, now owner of Harris Funeral Homes, who was being targeted by the LGBTQ crowd and who was standing up for what he believed. While I was surprised this was someone I knew, I wasn’t surprised Tom Rost was appropriately defending himself and his rights—on behalf of all of us.

"On Tuesday, October 8, Tom’s case was argued before the US Supreme Court—and it is a very significant case. In fact, our organization is part of a friend-of-the-court brief in this case, supporting Tom and his funeral home."

This case will dramatically impact privacy and safety protections for women and girls in the decades to come.
  • Will employers be forced to accommodate cross-dressing biological men in defiance of their corporate codes of conduct?
  • Will a biological male who claims to be "transgender" be allowed to use locker rooms, bathrooms, and private changing areas alongside biological women?
  • Will high school girls lose sports scholarships to high school boys who claim to be "transgender?"

DID YOU KNOW? Earlier this week the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in three cases asking it to decide whether the definition of sex in U.S. law includes sexual orientation and gender identity. At issue is the meaning of the word “sex” in Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the primary federal law prohibiting discrimination in employment.

The cases were brought by a gay child welfare services coordinator and a gay skydiving instructor in the first argument, and, in the second argument, a male funeral home director who was fired after announcing he was transitioning to become a woman. The justices will take the next several months to wrestle with the questions in these cases and likely issue rulings by the end of June.

Supreme Court to Hear Case That Will Determine Fate of Wisconsin Law
Regarding Abortion Providers

The Supreme Court agreed last Friday, October 4, to hear a challenge to a Louisiana law that its opponents say would leave the state with only one doctor in a single clinic authorized to provide abortions.

The case is the court’s first on abortion since President Trump’s appointments of Gorsuch and Kavenaugh, two justices who shifted the court to the right, and the court’s ruling, expected in June, could thrust the abortion issue into the center of the presidential campaign.

The Louisiana law, which was enacted in 2014, requires doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals. Only one doctor in Louisiana has been able to meet the requirement, the law’s challengers say.
The mainstream news says, “The case is very likely to yield an unusually telling decision, reshaping the constitutional principles governing abortion rights, because in 2016, the court struck down an essentially identical Texas law.”

This has bearing on us right here. Several years ago our legislature passed and Governor Walker signed into law a bill that does the exact same thing as the Louisiana law in question: requires doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges to a hospital within 30 miles of where the abortions are being performed. That law was immediately challenged by Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and it has been hung up in the courts and never actually enacted or enforced.  Whatever the US Supreme Court decides will pretty well determine the fate of our Wisconsin law.
