Urge EPA to act on harmful methane pollution

Dear John,

Right now, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is working to craft a new rule to tackle methane pollution from oil and gas operations, and they want to hear from you.

Methane pollution is a severe threat to our climate, our health and our communities, and we need everyone to urge EPA Administrator Regan to protect our health and slow the rate of climate change by taking sweeping action on methane.

Send in your comment today and — tell the EPA that it’s time to put methane under control!

Take action now

We have the tools and technology today to cut methane pollution from the oil and gas sector by 65% by 2025. And there is no time to waste. Every year, the oil and gas industry releases 16 million metric tons of methane into the atmosphere, along with other health-harming local air pollution. Without swift, comprehensive action, methane pollution will only continue to skyrocket.

This would be devastating — methane has more than 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide over its first 20 years in the atmosphere. And it is responsible for at least a quarter of warming today. That’s why cutting methane emissions is the fastest way to slow the rate of global warming today. As the world’s biggest oil and gas producer, the U.S. must lead the planet on putting methane under control.

While slowing the rate of warming, reducing oil and gas air pollution would also improve the health of our communities. Oil and gas pollution can lead to higher levels of ozone in the air, which can contribute to a host of health problems including asthma and heart disease.

It’s time to raise our collective voice to address our country’s methane problem — and right now, as EPA calls for public comments, is the best opportunity we’ve got to make sure our voices are heard. Submit a public comment today!

Thank you for standing with us,
