Happy Pride everybody!

June is about celebrating Pride and honoring the sacrifices of LGBTQ+ Americans like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and those who participated in the Stonewall rebellion — actions that kicked off the modern LGBTQ+ civil rights movement.

It’s also about recognizing the inequities that are still embedded in our laws and institutions, that too often put Black and Brown trans activists on the frontlines of a fight for basic dignity, respect, and safety from violence.

Donald Trump’s administration tried to roll back the clock on LGBTQ+ rights. And today, many Republican governors and legislatures continue to discriminate against the transgender community. Not to mention our laws still allow religious schools to discriminate against LGBTQ+ students.

Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans refused to vote on this bill when they were in charge. This month, let’s pass the Equality Act and end the legalized discrimination of LGBTQ+ people.

Add your name as a citizen cosponsor of the Equality Act and join me in demanding the Senate bring our bill to the floor for a vote. It’s time for federal legislation to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans once and for all.

Being who you are and loving who you love should not come with fear of discrimination, violence, or death. This is about human and civil rights, and I will always stand with our LGBTQ+ family.

This fight is not over. Last year, we won a major victory at the Supreme Court to prevent workplace discrimination against LGBTQ+ employees. But those rights are still on the line.

Thank you for raising your voice in this critical moment. By doing so, you are lifting up others and helping to build an America where everyone enjoys the equal right to exist without discrimination.

I will never stop working for equal rights and opportunity — that is my promise to you. And I’m grateful to have you by my side.
