Team, when I decided to run for president, I knew achieving universal healthcare coverage would be one of my top priorities.

I hope you'll give me a few moments to explain my plan for how to get there.

It's called Medicare-X, and it's the fastest and best way to achieve universal health care for all.

Medicare-X creates a public option -- an insurance plan available on the exchange that gives people the choice of keeping their current insurance or purchasing a more affordable public plan. Medicare-X, for the first time in history, requires the federal government to negotiate lower prescription drug prices. And it will force private insurers to compete and lower premiums across the board, especially in rural areas.

When it comes to expanding health coverage for millions of Americans, I don't think banning private insurance is the answer.

180 million Americans don't want to give up the insurance they receive through their employer.

20 million seniors don't want their Medicare Advantage stripped away.

Union members don't want their negotiated plans eliminated.

Medicare for All would do all of that.

My Medicare-X plan gives Americans the choice to decide what's right for their families.

Medicare for All may sound good at first, but when voters understand that it bans all private insurance--including employer and union plans--and dramatically raises their taxes, public support plummets.

And that could mean Democrats losing key states in the 2020 election.

We need a healthcare agenda with overwhelming support that voters can rally behind so we can beat Donald Trump in 2020; that plan is Medicare-X.
