Dear allies,

Happy Pride Month to our friends and allies of the LGBTQ+ community! We at CLU are proud to stand with our LGTBQ+ community in the fight for equal rights and calling for a more diverse leadership. We’re looking forward to the celebrations ([link removed]) as we observe Pride Month.

We are also celebrating the advancement of the Fair Share Amendment bill ([link removed]) – a constitutional amendment raising taxes on income over $1 million – which will now appear on the November 2022 ballot. Our partners, including Raise Up Massachusetts ([link removed]) , have fought for this as a critical piece to support low-income communities, communities of color, and working families to build a stronger economy as we recover from the pandemic. It’s time for the top 1% to pair their fair share.

This week, the Public Transit Public Good coalition held a legislative briefing to discuss building a sustainable, equitable and accessible public transit system for all of Massachusetts. We must continue to show support for a reduced-fare program for low-income riders in order to adequately recover from this pandemic. Join us ([link removed]) in demanding a public transit system that works for all.

We, along with our Care That Works coalition partners, are urging the legislature to continue lack of child care as a reason to avail unemployment benefits through September 2021. It is imperative for our communities to have the resources they need to support their families beyond this pandemic. That begins with being able to find and afford child care.

Action Alert: Flexible child care for MA residents NOW
The pandemic has exposed the inequalities in our state’s child care system. Low-income communities and communities of color have all disproportionately borne the brunt of the pandemic. With the American Rescue Plan funding, our leaders have a unique opportunity to match the federal Child Tax Credit and support our families and caregivers in need. Tell Governor Charlie Baker, Lt Governor Polito, and Environmental Secretary Katie Theohorides to act on energy justice today!
Massachusetts is facing an environmental justice crisis! State programs, like Mass Save, are designed to work with residents and businesses to improve their energy efficiency, ultimately cutting energy expenses and limiting carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. These programs however have failed to service many of the people most in need.

Sign the petition ([link removed]) to urge Governor Charlie Baker, Lt Governor Polito, and Environmental Secretary Katie Theohorides to reject any plan that doesn’t center the needs of environmental justice and low-income communities, and increase access and remove barriers for the underserved and language isolated communities across the state.
