“Equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided. Ignoring the differences between democracies governed by the rule of law and contemptible organizations that engage in terrorism at best discredits one’s intended argument and at worst reflects deep-seated prejudice.

The United States and Israel are imperfect and, like all democracies, at times deserving of critique, but false equivalencies give cover to terrorist groups. We urge Congresswoman Omar to clarify her words placing the U.S. and Israel in the same category as Hamas and the Taliban.”

Following another round of violence, terror and destruction in which the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas fired thousands of rockets at Israeli citizens, oversaw the destruction of its own infrastructure and brought unimaginable pain to citizens in the Gaza Strip, the Resistance Axis declared victory. Observers were rightly shocked by such infantile and irresponsible behavior. Yet, given the symbolic nature of Middle Eastern life, Hamas did not mean for its victory to be measured by human lives nor dollars, but with significant symbolic gains. Once again, Israelis are the center of Middle Eastern power struggles.

Can Hamas overcome Israel in any military action? I don’t believe anyone would think so, including the leaders of the Iranian-led Resistance Axis. Even those terrorist leaders are mostly intelligent, the goals of their actions are otherwise.

As of this writing, it appears the reign of Prime Minister Netanyahu, the longest-serving Prime Minister of the state of Israel, is drawing to a close and leaning toward a national unity government with Naftali Bennett of the right-leaning Yamina Party and Yair Lapid of the left-leaning party, Yesh Atid. What role did Mansour Abbas of the Ra’am Party have? What dynamics were in play behind the scenes to create this government? Will it be able to survive, or will Israel be headed to a fifth election in two and a half years? Will there be a consensus among the unity government leaders on issues of national security having to do with the Palestinians and Iran?
