Friends,

Years ago, when my oldest son was starting kindergarten, I learned that a random lottery determined which students in our district would get a full day of kindergarten instruction. In fact, despite overwhelming evidence that full-day kindergarten puts students on a path to greater academic and social skills, an estimated 40 percent of kindergarten age students in the U.S. don’t have access to a full-day option.

In my school district, I successfully fought to get full-day kindergarten because I couldn’t accept that random chance was determining which kids got a superior education. And now, I’m leading legislation in Congress that would expand access to full-day kindergarten nationwide.

If you’re a parent — I want to hear from you:

Did your child have a full-day kindergarten option when they were starting school?

If they haven't started school yet, will they have a full-day kindergarten option when they do?

Would you support efforts to expand full-day kindergarten programs in Iowa and across the U.S.?

Be well,

Cindy
