Happy Pride Month! Here at WSDC, we’re recognizing all the progress we’ve made towards ensuring justice and equity for all — and we’re standing in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community in the work that’s still to come.

Every June, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and all that they have contributed to our nation’s history. Pride means continuing to fight for a world where everyone feels free to love who they love and be who they are authentically.

We’re proud to say that Washington state has been a leader in the fight for equality. In 2018, we banned conversion therapy for minors. In 2019, we established an official LGBTQ+ commission to work with state agencies to develop policies that address the needs of the LGBTQ+ community. And just this past legislative session, we prohibited health insurers from denying or limiting coverage for gender affirming treatment.Our work towards ensuring justice for all is powered by our Senators who make up our LGBTQ+ Caucus:

Sen. Jamie Pedersen, who represents Washington’s 43rd LD, serves as Chair of the Washington Senate Democratic Campaign and Chair of the Law and Justice Committee.

Sen. Emily Randall, who represents Washington’s 26th LD, serves as Majority Caucus Whip and Chair of the Senate Higher Education & Workforce Development Committee.

Sen. Marko Liias, who represents Washington’s 21st LD, serves as Majority Floor Leader and helped lead the fight to protect LGBTQ+ youth by banning conversion therapy.

Sen. Claire Wilson, who represents Washington’s 30th LD, serves as Assistant Majority Caucus Whip and Vice Chair of the Early Learning & K-12 Education Committee.
