From birth to end-of-life, we all share the need for care — for ourselves and our loved ones . Yet the care workforce that enables our care infrastructure, which has always been disproportionately composed of Black women and other women of color, often doesn’t earn enough to care for themselves or their own families.
Our current care system (childcare and long term care) is held together by inadequate and imbalanced funding and high rates for worker turnover due to low wages. Lack of benefits and training have created chronic worker shortages for many undocumented workers with no path to citizenship. With the announcement of the American Jobs and Families Plans, we are starting to open up the conversation on what it will take to invest in care and the care workforce.
Senator Warren, a leading champion for women and care, will sit down with home and child care workers who are struggling to care for their families. This virtual conversation [[link removed]] focuses on exactly how a strong home care and childcare infrastructure is vital for working women everywhere.
