June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month, so I wanted to drop you all a note about this incredibly important issue.
Look, I served in the Army for 23 years and my childhood memories include learning to shoot on a rifle range because my father was a military marksman. I am no stranger to firearms and I will always defend the Constitution, including the Second Amendment — but we need reasonable restrictions on firearm ownership in order to keep our communities safe.

People are sick and tired of waking up to news about another mass shooting, reading about gun violence in their communities and even worrying about sending their kids back to in-person school. I feel that way as a citizen, as a legislator and as a parent.
