The Way Forward Is Public Transport: Diane's story

** "We need public transport"
------------------------------------------------------------

Hello

We recently launched a new campaign, The Way Forward Is Public Transport ([link removed]) , which calls on the Government to support and improve public transport as the country begins to emerge from the Covid crisis.

It's been great to talk to people who care about public transport as much as we do. People like Diane, whose video - made earlier this year - is above. In Diane's words, "Just because we are mature does not mean we should not have access to public transport... public transport means we can continue to get out and enjoy our lives."

Public transport is important to millions of people. For many people, it is a lifeline: a quarter of households in England do not have access to a car. If public transport dwindles, non-drivers could find themselves cut off from jobs and training, friends and family, shops and doctors' surgeries.
Andrew at a bus stop "To be honest with you, getting the bus is what gives me my independence... I'm quite an outgoing person and the bus means I don't feel trapped and reliant on other people... The bus is good for disabled people" - Andrew, East Sussex

Some people told us how public transport is vital to their working lives. NHS keyworker Ruth relied on public transport to get her to work through the health crisis.
Ruth "I find that using public transport gives me some headspace and downtime... It's a small period of time to myself to reflect and process what has happened at work, so that when I get home my head is much clearer" - Ruth, Birmingham

Others told us that they love travelling by public transport for day-trips and holidays, like Jessica, who talked to us during the last lockdown and whose video is below. You can read more people's comments and watch their videos here on The Way Forward website ([link removed]) .

If public transport is important to you too, please take a minute to add your name to our campaign.

Please also help by emailing your MP calling on the Government to back public transport. Hundreds of people have already emailed their MPs using our quick, simple form.

Thank you very much - together let's call for a better, fairer, greener transport future
