At 350 Chicago, working to end the fossil fuel era is our primary mission. Which is why we think ending fossil fuel subsidies is a critical measure to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.  Every year, the federal government gives $15 billion in direct subsidies to the fracking and fossil fuel industries. That’s right: billions of dollars of our tax dollars going to prop up a dying industry that is poisoning our water and fueling the global climate crisis. This cannot continue if we want to prevent catastrophic climate change.  

This year, the U.S. Congress will decide whether to continue these fracking subsidies or finally repeal them and invest in clean energy solutions instead.  Congress is considering this issue right now.

WHAT: Petition drop with a small rally

President Biden has expressed his support for ending subsidies, and champions in Congress have introduced legislation to do just that. But in order to get these policies included in the infrastructure package and actually passed through the House and Senate, we need to put pressure on key members of the Ways and Means Committee, including Rep. Davis.
