Hi John ,
President Trump recently made the decision to partially reposition US troops in NE Syria, greenlighting a Turkish invasion that will further destabilize the region and has already lead to civilian deaths. While we support an actual withdrawal of US troops from Syria, it appears that Trump's decision was in part fueled by his business interests and arms deals with the authoritarian Turkish government, who are bent on ethnically cleansing the region of Kurds.
We need bold leadership in Washington to hold Trump accountable and curb the ever-growing influence of the military-industrial complex on our foreign policy.
Unfortunately, we can’t look to our Democratic Party leadership in our fight against Trump’s reckless decision-making -- our district’s incumbent, Rep. Eliot Engel, who is the current Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, is just as dangerous as the rest of them. His connections with weapons manufacturers are well-documented, and he has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the arms lobby since 2003.
The bipartisan foreign policy consensus has failed us, and we need something different. Radically different. That’s why we’re highlighting foreign policy -- reimagining and reshaping the role of our nation in the international order -- throughout our campaign.
We can, and will, put forth a vision for a just and humane foreign policy: one that privileges human rights over capital; one that spends less money on bombs and reinvests into healthcare, education, and social services; one that isn’t beholden to the arms manufacturers and warhawks littered across Washington.
Help make this vision a reality by signing up to volunteer for our campaign! We welcome support from everyone - whether based in NY or elsewhere.
Thank you for everything you do.
In solidarity,
Andom Ghebreghiorgis
