“Vast majority of the 180,000 Ohio voters purged” - The Columbus Dispatch
182,000.
That’s how many Ohioans were just purged from the voter registration rolls, and it’s unacceptable.
This is the second voter purge of its kind in Ohio since the U.S. Supreme Court passed down a decision allowing Ohio and other states to remove voters from registration rolls if they haven’t recently participated in a federal election and if they don’t respond to registration notices.
If those voters don’t reregister in time, they could be turned away from their polling places on Election Day.
We can’t let that stand. Add your name to mine if you believe we should protect voters’ constitutional rights -- not take them away.
We know who these voter suppression tactics target -- it's low-income voters, minorities, and students.
As Democrats, we embrace the idea of taking down barriers to voting. We believe everyone's voice should be heard. But time and again, Republicans look for ways to make it harder to vote.
I strongly believe we should make it easier -- not harder -- to vote.
That’s why as Ohio’s secretary of state, I convinced McDonald’s to print registration forms on tray liners, and it’s why earlier this year, I introduced a plan that would make it illegal for states to use failure to vote or respond to state notices as reasons to remove voters from registration rolls.
Because everyone’s voice should be heard at the ballot box.
Sign on and join me in fighting for voting rights for all.
With gratitude,
Sherrod
