This month and every month, I am so proud to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and honor all of the activists who have helped bring our nation closer to equality.

June is a time to celebrate the great strides we've made in the fight for equality, but it is also a moment to reflect and renew our shared commitment to push even further.

Because let's be clear -- even in the year 2021, LGBTQ+ Americans can still be kicked out of a restaurant or denied a mortgage just because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

That absolutely needs to change, and that's why I was proud to be an original cosponsor of The Equality Act. This Pride Month, will you join me in calling for equal rights for LGBTQ+ Americans? Add your name to show your support for the Equality Act, legislation that will guarantee equal protection for LGBTQ+ Americans.

The Equality Act would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual preference or gender identity. It would outlaw discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community in employment, housing, public accommodations, education, federally funded programs, credit, and jury service.

Guaranteeing legal protections for the LGBTQ+ community is long overdue. The Equality Act would finally enshrine these protections into law.
