Every year, the federal government gives $15 billion in direct subsidies to the fracking and fossil fuel industries. That’s right: billions of our tax dollars are going to prop up a dying industry that is poisoning our water and fueling the global climate crisis. That's madness.

This year, Congress will decide whether to continue these fracking subsidies or finally repeal them and invest in clean energy solutions instead. That’s why Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ilhan Omar introduced the End Polluter Welfare Act.

The End Polluter Welfare Act would close dozens of federal tax loopholes that specifically benefit oil, gas and coal special interests. It would also prohibit any taxpayer funding for fossil fuel research and development, and it would end federal support for international oil, gas and coal projects. This is a critical piece of legislation, and your members of Congress need to hear from you in order to support it.

But President Biden and congressional leadership are under enormous pressure from Big Oil and its friends to keep these subsidies in place.
