Introduction to Limited Equity Cooperatives

This introductory level course is for policy makers, funders, community members, community planners and anyone interested specifically in limited equity housing cooperatives. Learn more about the co-op model and the cooperative movement in this participatory course. Affordable housing cooperatives play a critical role in homeownership opportunities especially in dense urban areas where single-family homes are out of reach for low- and moderate-income people. Housing cooperatives can not only provide lasting affordability, but also create community among members, encourage resource sharing and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of its residents. With strategic initial financial assistance, corporate formation and ongoing support, they are an invaluable national housing resource.
